About this album
Nantucket Sleighride is Mountain’s most accomplished early album, sharpening the band’s heavy blues-rock attack into something more ambitious and memorable. Issued in 1971, it followed the success of Climbing! and showed Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi, Corky Laing and Steve Knight expanding their sound with stronger songwriting and a more varied mood. The title track became one of the band’s signature pieces, while songs such as “Don’t Look Around” and “The Great Train Robbery” underline the group’s knack for combining grit, melody and extended jam energy. Produced by Pappalardi, the album helped define early hard rock’s muscular American voice.
