Morgan Wallen – One Thing At A Time (3xLP)

Morgan Wallen's One Thing At A Time arrived in 2023 as his third studio album, and its scale tells you a lot about its ambition: 36 songs spread across a wide stylistic range. The record leans into the mix of country, alternative and hip-hop influences Wallen has described as central to his sound, while also capturing a particularly personal stretch in his life. Coming after the huge commercial run of Dangerous: The Double Album, it presents him in expansive mode rather than trimming things back.

What gives the album its shape is the way it moves between confession, swagger and reflection. The sources point to a recurring tension between sin and salvation, from the opening statement of “Born With A Beer In My Hand” to the closing perspective of “Dying Man.” Along the way, Wallen folds in outside reference points without losing his Nashville footing: “Everything I Love” draws on The Allman Brothers’ “Midnight Rider,” while “180 (Lifestyle)” reworks Young Thug’s “Lifestyle,” showing how broadly he is willing to cast for texture and attitude.

The guest list helps underline that range. Eric Church appears on “Man Made A Bar,” HARDY joins “In The Bible,” and ERNEST features on “Cowgirls,” while Wallen’s sister Ashlyne Wallen adds harmony to “Outlook,” tying the album back to family as well as genre. On vinyl, this edition’s 3xLP spread suits an album built to feel sprawling, restless and deliberately all-encompassing.
