In a kaleidoscopic lattice of micro-rhythms and exquisitely dynamic textural work, Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles fully collaborated for the final time on this record.

Monolake Interstate sees Field Records present the first vinyl pressing of the duo’s 1999 album, documenting a pivotal moment in their development. Marking the final collaboration between Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles, it refines their dub-techno foundations into something more fluid and complex.

Working with Max/MSP, they push their sound into detailed, shifting structures where rhythm and texture move with near-organic interplay. Tracks like ‘Tangent-I’ and ‘Tangent-II’ balance deep, rolling low-end with finely layered synth detail, while ‘Ginza’ channels drum & bass momentum into precise, dub-inflected design.

Across its eight pieces, Interstate maps a turning point—both for Monolake and for digital music production at the close of the millennium. Behles would soon focus on Ableton Live, while Henke continued to evolve the project’s direction. The result remains a richly detailed and forward-looking work.
