    Water Babies is a revealing Miles Davis album that documents the transition between his post-bop quintet and the electric fusion years. Issued in 1976 from sessions recorded in 1967 and 1968, with one cut from 1969, it gathered unreleased material that showed how quickly Davis was moving beyond hard-bop language towards looser rhythm, electric colour and greater improvisational freedom. The title track, Capricorn and Sweet Pea underline the shift, while the set as a whole captures a restless bandleader testing new ideas before Bitches Brew and the era that followed. It is an important snapshot of Davis in motion, not a leftover collection.
