The Complete Birth Of The Cool is an LP by Miles Davis from 2019 released on the Capitol Records, UMe label.
About this album
Birth of the Cool gathers the landmark nonet recordings that helped define cool jazz and redirect modern jazz away from hard-bop intensity towards lighter, more arranged textures. Issued in 1957 from sessions cut earlier in 1949-50, the compilation captures Miles Davis working with an unusually large ensemble shaped by the influence of arranger Gil Evans, with music that balances improvisation against carefully voiced ensemble writing. Pieces such as Move, Jeru and Boplicity became touchstones of the style, and the set remains one of Davis’ most historically important releases. Its impact on West Coast jazz and later modal thinking made it a foundational Miles Davis document.
