    Miles In Berlin is a vital live document of Miles Davis’s second great quintet, capturing the group’s razor-sharp interplay in 1964. Recorded in Berlin and issued in the late 1960s, it shows Davis extending the language of hard bop into a more open modal vocabulary, with Keith Jarrett, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter and Tony Williams pushing the music beyond tight standards into something far more volatile and exploratory. Familiar pieces such as Milestones, So What and Autumn Leaves become springboards for invention rather than fixed repertoire. The result is one of the key recordings from Davis’s mid-60s transition, where discipline, risk and invention meet in real time.
