Miles Davis – Kind of Blue (2xLP, Corrected speed)

Miles Davis – Kind of Blue remains the clearest introduction to what made Davis such a compelling bandleader: fewer chords, more space, and endless room for melodic invention. Recorded across two 1959 sessions with John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, the album was built from spare sketches rather than rehearsed arrangements, which helps explain its freshness and calm authority. It is still widely recognised as the best-selling jazz album ever made.

This Analogue Productions edition adds a genuinely useful twist: the first three tracks appear at corrected speed, addressing the long-discussed tape-machine error from the original session, while also including the original-speed versions for comparison. With Bernie Grundman-mastered Classic Records parts, a pressing by Quality Record Pressings, and the alternate take of Flamenco Sketches on side four, it is a thoughtful reissue of a record that still feels open, intimate and endlessly playable.
