Agharta is an LP by Miles Davis from 1976 released on the Columbia label.
About this album
Agharta is one of the most uncompromising statements of Miles Davis’s electric era, turning jazz-funk and jazz-rock into something far more volatile. Recorded live in Osaka in 1975, it finds Davis fronting a fiercely interactive band with Pete Cosey, Reggie Lucas, Michael Henderson, Al Foster and Sonny Fortune driving the music into dense, extended grooves. Rather than tidy solos or familiar standards, the album unfolds as a continuous surge of atmosphere, distortion and rhythmic pressure, with echoes of earlier Davis themes pushed into a harder, more confrontational setting. Widely regarded as a landmark of his late-period work, it remains a key record for understanding how far jazz could stretch without losing its edge.
