Midge Ure – The Gift (VG+/VG+) – LP, UK 1985

The Gift is an LP by Midge Ure from 1985 released on the Chrysalis label.

About this album

The Gift is Midge Ure’s strongest solo statement, a polished synth-pop album that turned his post-Ultravox profile into a distinctive solo voice. Released in 1985, it is led by the hit single If I Was and built on sharp electronic arrangements, restrained atmosphere and clear melodic instincts. Ure’s songwriting balances cold modern textures with an unusually human emotional pull, giving the record both commercial polish and lasting appeal. Arriving at a high point for mid-80s pop production, the album helped establish him as more than a band frontman, with title track and closing reprise reinforcing its cohesive, carefully crafted shape.
