    About this album

    Loose Salute is a strong showcase for Michael Nesmith’s role in shaping country rock into something relaxed, melodic and commercially appealing. Released in 1970 with The First National Band, it followed the breakthrough of Magnetic South and carried forward his blend of folk-rock ease, pedal steel colour and sharp, unfussy songwriting. The album is best known for Silver Moon, one of Nesmith’s most enduring solo-era songs, and it helped confirm him as more than a former Monkee: he was a serious writer and bandleader with a clear musical identity. Its easygoing sound became an important bridge between pop craftsmanship and country influence.
