Meco Monardo’s The Wizard of Oz is a playful disco reimagining of one of cinema’s most enduring soundtracks. Issued in 1978, the album reworks Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg’s songs from the 1939 film into a sleek electronic-pop suite, with Meco’s knack for orchestration and dance-floor momentum giving familiar melodies a fresh late-70s sheen. Best known for his Star Wars disco hit, Meco was a key figure in novelty crossover records that brought blockbuster themes and show tunes into mainstream pop culture. Here, his version of Over the Rainbow and other Oz favourites turns nostalgia into high-gloss spectacle.
