    About this album

Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em turned MC Hammer into a worldwide pop phenomenon and helped bring rap to the centre of mainstream radio and television. Released in 1990, the album blends catchy pop rap hooks, polished production and Hammer’s athletic, crowd-pleasing delivery. Built around breakout single U Can't Touch This and anchored by other chart-friendly cuts such as Pray, it became one of the biggest crossover rap albums of its era. Its commercial impact was enormous, helping define the sound and image of early-1990s rap at a moment when hip hop was reaching a far broader audience.
