About this album

Right Back Where We Started From is a bright, hook-rich soul-disco album that turns Maxine Nightingale’s breakthrough title hit into a wider showcase for her warm, assured voice. Released in 1976, the record sits squarely in the moment when polished dancefloor soul was crossing into mainstream pop, balancing buoyant rhythms with gospel-tinged feeling and clean production. The title track became an international success and defined Nightingale’s career, but the album also underlines her command of tender balladry and rhythmic momentum. It remains a strong example of mid-70s crossover soul with lasting radio appeal.
