"The Winding Sheet" was Mark Lanegan's solo debut in 1990. It emphasises his talent as a copywriter and his deep, emotional voice.Highlights on the album are 'Mockingbirds', 'Ugly Sunday' and the haunting 'Wild Flowers'. Kurt Cobain sings on "Down In The Dark" and on the folk classic "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" Cobain contributes guitar and vocals, while Krist Novoselic plays bass.Nirvana would later also cover "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" on their MTV Unplugged album. "The Winding Sheet" was produced by Jack Endino, LANEGAN himself and Johnson. With the bonus track "I Love You Little Girl".
