About this album
2 is the album that turned Mac DeMarco from cult outsider into a defining indie-rock voice of the 2010s. Released in 2012, it sharpened the loose, lo-fi approach of his earlier work into something more memorable and immediate, with jangly guitars, relaxed vocals and hooks that linger long after the record ends. Written and recorded in DeMarco’s famously unpolished style, it helped establish the slacker-pop persona that would make him a festival favourite and a touchstone for a new generation of indie listeners. Highlights such as “Ode To Viceroy” and “My Kind Of Woman” show his gift for turning deadpan humour into genuine warmth.
