Forbidden Planet is a landmark electronic soundtrack by Louis and Bebe Barron, and one of the most important early experiments in film music. Created for the 1956 science-fiction classic, it replaced conventional orchestration with handmade electronic tones, tape loops and circuit-generated sounds that felt startlingly new. Its unnerving textures helped define the movie’s futuristic atmosphere and influenced generations of composers, ambient artists and experimental electronic musicians. Long admired for its bold imagination, the score remains a touchstone in both soundtrack history and the wider development of electronic music.
