Law and Order is a strikingly idiosyncratic solo debut from Lindsey Buckingham, showing the Fleetwood Mac guitarist sharpening his pop instincts into something leaner, stranger and more personal. Released in 1981, the album balances acoustic intimacy with clipped new wave rhythm and off-kilter studio detail, with Buckingham handling much of the performance and production himself. Songs such as Trouble, Mary Lee Jones and It Was I reveal his gift for turning fragmented ideas into compact, memorable hooks. The record helped define Buckingham’s reputation as Fleetwood Mac’s most experimental pop craftsman, equally fluent in melodic polish and nervous invention.
