About this album
Destroyer is the album where KISS turned their glam-metal spectacle into a harder, more ambitious rock statement. Released in 1976, it paired the band’s cheeky, larger-than-life persona with sharper songwriting and bigger production, thanks in part to Bob Ezrin’s theatrical studio approach. The result produced some of KISS’s most enduring songs, including Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud and the unexpected ballad Beth, which helped broaden their audience well beyond the hard rock faithful. Widely regarded as one of their essential records, Destroyer captured the band at the point where image, melody and volume clicked into classic arena rock.
