  • King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard's Alien Metal is the band's 28th studio album, and it pushes their catalogue further into electronic territory than before. Built out of the "rave shows" they began unveiling in 2025, it was shaped largely with Eurorack modular synthesizers, turning that live experiment into a full studio statement. Rather than treating dance music as a side trip, the group aim straight for its darker edges here, with a set that leans into pressure, momentum and a distinctly futuristic mood.

That shift matters in the wider King Gizzard story. This is a band known for moving restlessly from one approach to another, and Alien Metal stands out as a record born from process as much as genre: modular synth work, rave-tested ideas and a concise eight-track structure. Tracks such as “Sapience,” “Alien Metal” and “Level 5” suggest an album built for flow and impact rather than sprawl, while the title hints at the collision of machine textures and physical force that runs through the whole thing.

For vinyl, this edition keeps the presentation special without overcomplicating it: a 180g Black Marble pressing with a large double-sided poster, high-gloss jacket and a recycled protective outer bag. For a band with such a huge discography, it feels like a particularly clear snapshot of how quickly they can turn a new live idea into a fully realised record.
