Three Of A Perfect Pair is a striking late-period King Crimson album that distils the band’s cerebral prog into a leaner, more experimental form. Released in 1984, it completed the group’s early-’80s trilogy and pushed their mix of complex rhythms, angular guitar interplay and uneasy pop concision even further. Fripp, Belew, Bruford and Levin combine taut songwriting with abstract textures on pieces such as the title track and Sleepless, while the album’s contrasts between structure and improvisation give it lasting appeal. It stands as one of the band’s most distinctive statements from their second classic era.
