About this album

Doppelganger is a sharp, genre-blending 1983 album from Kid Creole And The Coconuts, balancing Latin rhythms, disco drive and funk flair with the group’s theatrical humour. Led by August Darnell, the band turned nightclub glamour and post-disco sparkle into something stranger and more distinctive, with polished arrangements that still feel playful and restless. The album continues the exuberant New York–via-the-Caribbean style that made the group stand out in the early 1980s, mixing dancefloor energy with tongue-in-cheek storytelling. It is one of the key records in the Kid Creole catalogue and a strong example of their stylish, cosmopolitan pop-soul crossover.
