Too-Rye-Ay is the album that turned Dexys Midnight Runners into a mainstream force. Driven by Kevin Rowland’s intense vocals and a vivid blend of soul, folk and New Wave, it broadened the band’s sound without losing its hard-edged emotional urgency. Produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, the 1982 record paired punchy rhythm-and-blues energy with Celtic instrumentation and sharp songwriting, while “Come On Eileen” became one of the decade’s defining singles. The album’s originality and commercial reach helped make Dexys one of Britain’s most distinctive pop acts.
