    About this album

Ballads 1 is the striking debut album from Joji, the project that turned his internet-born profile into a serious alt-pop breakthrough. Released in 2018, it blends lo-fi melancholy, contemporary R&B, trap and synth-pop into a dark, emotionally direct sound built for late-night listening. Songs such as Slow Dancing in the Dark and Test Drive helped define its appeal, pairing hushed melodies with stark, wounded production. The album became a key release in the rise of genre-blurring bedroom pop and proved Joji could translate internet-era fame into a distinctive, commercially resonant recording.
