About this album

Mallee Boy is one of John Williamson’s defining albums, sharpening his gift for bush-centred storytelling into a set that helped secure his place in Australian country music. Released in 1986, it blends humour, nostalgia and plainspoken pride, with songs such as the title track, Raining on the Rock and True Blue becoming enduring favourites. Williamson’s relaxed delivery and keen eye for everyday detail give the record its appeal, turning regional imagery and working-country themes into something broadly resonant. For many listeners, it represents the moment his songwriting became inseparable from a distinctly Australian voice, and a major step in his long career.
