About this album
John Williams’ Star Wars is one of the defining film scores of the modern era. Written for George Lucas’s 1977 space opera and performed by The London Symphony Orchestra, it revived the full-blooded symphonic soundtrack at a time when Hollywood music was moving in other directions. Williams’ Neo-Romantic themes for the Main Title, Princess Leia and the Force gave the film its mythic sweep, while cues such as the Cantina Band showed his flair for character and wit. The score won the Academy Award and helped make Star Wars a cultural phenomenon far beyond the screen.
