A complex and sometimes feisty character in real life, on record John Martyn was the quintessential folk dreamer, embodying the spirit of the burgeoning London acoustic scene of the late 60s. Known and appreciated for his albums "Solid Air" and "One World" from the 70s. "Conversation" was released in October 1967 and was the first album by the first "rock" signing of Chris Blackwell's Island Records.
Eight of the twelve tracks were penned by Martyn, and it's easy to see why Blackwell was such an advocate of his work. The five-plus minute sitar drone of Rolling Home pointed the way to the possibilities that lay ahead. The cover captures the earnest folk sitting amongst the capital's smokestacks, strumming his acoustic instrument. Martyn was a part of it, Martyn was about it. This re-release is pressed on high quality 180g vinyl.
