John Martyn – Grace & Danger (VG+/VG+) – LP, AU 1980

Grace & Danger is an LP by John Martyn from 1980 released on the Island Records label.

About this album

Grace & Danger is one of John Martyn’s most intensely personal albums, balancing bruised emotion with fluid folk-jazz and soul-inflected arrangements. Released in 1980, it was written in the wake of a painful breakup and records that turmoil in Martyn’s slurred, expressive voice and guitar work. Produced by Martin Levan and featuring bassist John Giblin, the album pairs understated musicianship with a stark confessional edge that made it stand apart in Martyn’s catalogue. Songs such as “Sweet Little Mystery” and the title track helped define its reputation as a bleak, beautiful document of love, loss and resilience.
