Whatever Gets You Thru the Night became his first US solo number one single, while #9 Dream extended the record’s melodic reach and helped define its enduring appeal. Across songs such as Going Down on Love and Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down and Out), Lennon turns personal upheaval into sharply observed, memorable pop-rock.
