    About this album

The Empyrean is John Frusciante at his most ambitious, expanding his solo work into a cinematic blend of psychedelic rock, prog and experimental songcraft. Released in 2009, the album finds the former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist building long-form pieces around shifting dynamics, layered guitars and a strongly melodic centre. Guest appearances from longtime collaborators and the album’s suite-like structure give it a spacious, episodic feel, while songs such as Dark/Light and Enough of Me show Frusciante balancing abstraction with direct emotional force. Widely regarded as one of his most complete solo statements, it captures his fascination with texture, atmosphere and compositional freedom.
