John Farnham – Greatest Hits (2xLP, Bottle Green Vinyl)

John Farnham's Greatest Hits rounds up 17 key recordings from the Australian singer's hugely successful solo years, and this 2023 vinyl edition brings a 1997 collection to LP for the first time. It works as a sharp introduction to the period when Farnham's comeback turned into something bigger: a run of polished pop-rock anthems and power ballads led by songs that became part of Australian pop culture, especially "You're The Voice."

Rather than trying to tell his whole story, the set focuses on the songs most listeners came back to again and again. "Pressure Down," "A Touch Of Paradise," and "Two Strong Hearts" show how comfortably Farnham moved between radio-ready hooks and full-throated, dramatic delivery, while later favourites such as "Burn For You," "Angels," and "A Simple Life" keep the emphasis on his knack for big melodies without losing warmth.

It is also a useful snapshot of how collaborative his catalogue could be. Alongside the solo hits, this selection includes "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" and "Every Time You Cry," giving the album a broader view of Farnham's late-80s and 90s peak. For anyone after the songs that defined his modern reputation, this is an accessible and very satisfying overview.
