About this album
Uh-Huh is the album that helped turn John Cougar Mellencamp into a major American rock voice. Released in 1983, it sharpened his heartland sound into lean, radio-ready rock & roll, mixing hard-edged guitars with plainspoken writing about small-town life, work, politics and disillusionment. Powered by songs such as Crumblin’ Down, Pink Houses and Authority Song, the record moved him further from novelty pop territory and towards the status that would define his mid-1980s run. Its directness, grit and melodic punch made it one of his most durable and widely admired releases.
