    About this album

    A Love Supreme is John Coltrane’s spiritual masterpiece and one of jazz’s most celebrated albums. Recorded in December 1964 and released in 1965 on Impulse!, the four-part suite united modal freedom, post-bop discipline and intense lyricism into a single visionary statement. Coltrane’s quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones gives the music its force and shape, from the opening invocation of “Acknowledgement” to the searching, concluding “Psalm”. Widely regarded as a landmark of 20th-century music, it helped expand jazz’s emotional and spiritual reach while becoming a defining statement of Coltrane’s late period.
