About this album

Mike’s Murder is a striking example of Joe Jackson’s versatility, turning a motion picture commission into music with its own identity. Issued in 1983, the soundtrack blends new wave energy, jazz-funk movement and ambient colour, reflecting Jackson’s interest in crossing pop, jazz and instrumental composition. Rather than functioning as simple background music, it gives the film a taut, nocturnal atmosphere and shows how effectively Jackson could write for mood as well as melody. For listeners drawn to his most adventurous work, it sits alongside the early-1980s records that broadened his reputation beyond straightforward pop.
