About this album
The Story Of Jimi Hendrix is a strong late-1970s overview of Jimi Hendrix’s brief but transformative career. Issued in 1978, the compilation draws from the core experience of his catalogue, from the ferocious guitar breakthrough of Purple Haze and Hey Joe to the more expansive psychedelia of 3rd Stone From The Sun and All Along The Watchtower. Heard together, these recordings underline how Hendrix fused blues feeling, studio imagination and hard rock power into something entirely new. As a retrospective, it works less as a complete career survey than as a concise reminder of why Hendrix remains one of rock’s defining figures.
