Bad For Good is Jim Steinman’s grand, theatrical rock statement, built on the same outsized ambition that defined his work with Meat Loaf. Issued in 1981, it translates his taste for melodramatic narratives, piled-on vocals and hard-edged pop-rock into a solo album that feels both operatic and unapologetically excessive. Steinman wrote and produced the record, and its widescreen arrangements, dramatic shifts and apocalyptic imagery make it a key document of arena rock excess. With songs such as the title track, “Left in the Dark” and “Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through”, the album shows how Steinman turned bombast into a distinctive musical language.
