About this album
Jerry Fielding’s The Wild Bunch is a tense, inventive western score that deepens Sam Peckinpah’s landmark 1969 film. Written for the 1969 movie and released alongside it, the music uses brass, folk inflections and stark orchestral writing to mirror the film’s violent, elegiac tone. Fielding’s cues sharpen the drama without overwhelming it, from the mournful song material to the urgent action passages that drive the train assault and finale. Widely regarded as one of the key revisionist western scores, it helped define the film’s bleak, modern view of the frontier and remains central to Fielding’s reputation as a film composer.
