Imaginary Voyage is an LP by Jean-Luc Ponty from 1976 released on the Atlantic label.
About this album
Imaginary Voyage is a vivid statement of Jean-Luc Ponty’s 1970s fusion vision, balancing jazz virtuosity with rock drive and expansive, spacey atmospheres. Released in 1976, the album finds the French violinist leading a tight electric ensemble through extended, imaginative pieces that favour momentum, colour and improvisation over simple genre boundaries. Ponty had already become a major figure in jazz-rock by this point, and this record helped confirm his reputation for making the violin a powerful frontline instrument in fusion. Its blend of precision, lyricism and adventurous form makes it one of his most distinctive and approachable albums.
