Released in 1982, it moved their sound beyond pub rock into crisp new wave and alternative rock, driven by Michael Hutchence’s cool charisma and the group’s lean, hook-focused songwriting. Recorded with production that favoured clarity and momentum, the album produced key tracks such as The One Thing and Don’t Change, both of which helped establish the band’s signature blend of swagger, melody and restraint. It became an important stepping stone in INXS’s rise from Australian success story to global rock act.
