    About this album

A fierce, landmark reading of Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps, this 1974 release pairs the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Georg Solti in a performance of elemental force and razor-edged control. The score’s two-part design, from L’Adoration De La Terre to Le Sacrifice, made it one of the defining works of modern orchestral music, and Solti brings out both its savage rhythmic drive and luminous orchestral detail. Stravinsky’s ballet remains a touchstone of 20th-century composition, and this interpretation shows why it continues to shock, excite and command attention more than half a century after its notorious premiere.
