New Values is a strong, forward-looking solo album from Iggy Pop, finding him turning punk abrasion into something leaner, tighter and more melodic. Released in 1979, it was his first record after the initial burst of The Stooges legacy and showed how well his snarling delivery could work within new wave, garage rock and pop rock frameworks. Produced by James Williamson, the album balances nervous energy with sharper hooks on songs such as I’m Bored and Five Foot One. Its mix of attitude, wit and compact songcraft helped establish Iggy Pop as more than a cult survivor: a durable solo artist with real pop instincts.
