IF – If 3 (VG/VG) – LP, US 1971

If 3 is an LP by If from 1971 released on the Capitol Records label.

About this album

If 3 is a strong jazz-rock statement from IF, balancing tight ensemble writing with the larger-scale ambition that made the band stand out in the early 1970s. Released in 1971, the album leans into the style’s fusion of rock momentum, jazz harmonies and brass-driven arrangements, creating a sound that is both muscular and intricate. IF were part of the British jazz-rock movement that bridged club-rooted improvisation and album-oriented rock, and this record shows that crossover at its most assured. The result is a compact but adventurous set that helped define the band’s reputation among listeners drawn to sophisticated, high-energy fusion.
