HTRK – Work (Work, Work) (15th Anniversary Edition, Clear Ash Vinyl)

HTRK’s “Work (Work, Work),” a cult classic that was reissued to mark its 15th anniversary, was born out of grief over the sudden loss of founding member Sean Stewart in 2010. Characterized by agonizingly slow 808 beats, eerie synth arpeggios, and hazy guitar noise, paired with Jonnine Standish’s unique sense of detachment, “Work (Work, Work)” felt dark, stark, and melancholic. But when you delve deeper into this somber, minimalist work, a romantic core is revealed. Something they would go on to highlight even further in the years that followed.
