Hothouse Flowers – People (VG/VG+) – LP, UK 1988

People is an LP by Hothouse Flowers from 1988 released on the London Records label.

About this album

People is Hothouse Flowers’ breakthrough debut and a vivid statement of intent. Released in 1988, it fused blues rock with folk, gospel and soul influences, driven by Liam Ó Maonlaí’s expressive vocals and the band’s broad, communal sound. The album helped establish the Dublin group as one of Ireland’s most distinctive late-80s successes, balancing muscular rhythms with heartfelt melodies and an earnest live-wire energy. Songs such as Don’t Go and I’m Sorry showed their knack for direct, emotionally charged writing, while the record’s crossover appeal made it a key release in the band’s early rise beyond the Irish scene.
