Future Shock is an LP by Herbie Hancock from 1983 released on the CBS label.
About this album
Future Shock is the album where Herbie Hancock decisively plugged jazz into the emerging language of electro and hip-hop. Released in 1983, it pairs his keyboard-led writing with the futuristic production of Bill Laswell and Material, turning jagged synth lines, programmed beats and scratching into something both dancefloor-ready and unmistakably Hancock. “Rockit” became the breakout hit, helped by its iconic video and club impact, while the title track and other cuts extend the record’s restless blend of funk, technology and improvisation. Widely regarded as one of Hancock’s most adventurous commercial statements, it helped define the sound of 1980s fusion crossover.
