About this album
Viva Mexico is a lively snapshot of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass at their most accessible, blending pop polish with Latin jazz colour and a breezy commercial instinct. The compilation draws on the group’s hugely popular late-1960s run, when Alpert’s trumpet-led sound helped define the Tijuana Brass as one of the era’s most recognisable instrumental acts. With well-known pieces such as The Lonely Bull, Mexican Shuffle and The Girl from Ipanema alongside other standards and originals, it shows how the band turned melody, rhythm and bright brass arrangements into crossover hits that reached far beyond jazz audiences.
