About this album
Nightclubbing is the album that turned Grace Jones into an enduring icon of post-disco cool. Issued in 1981, it sharpened her shape-shifting persona with a taut blend of dub, funk, synth-pop and disco, much of it built with the Sly and Robbie-led Compass Point All Stars and producer Chris Blackwell. Jones reworks material by songs like Use Me and I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango) into something unmistakably her own, balancing menace, glamour and rhythmic precision. The record became one of her most celebrated releases and helped define the sound and image of early-1980s avant-garde pop.
