    Ismism finds Godley & Creme turning art-pop experimentation into something taut, witty and surprisingly accessible. Released in 1981, the album builds on the duo’s reputation for boundary-pushing electronics while folding in synth-pop, electro and funk-influenced textures. Songs such as Under Your Thumb and Wedding Bells show their gift for sharp melodic writing, studio detail and dry humour, while the broader album plays like a restlessly inventive answer to early-’80s pop orthodoxy. Coming after their split from 10cc, it cemented their status as imaginative outsiders with a strong ear for hooks as well as conceptual risk.
