Ghost Dubs' Oblique is Michael Fiedler's second album under the Ghost Dubs name, arriving after 2024's Damaged and following his score for Sound of Falling, which was recognised at Cannes in 2025. That context matters: this record pushes his dub-techno language into something broader and more cinematic, with Jamaican dub still present but stretched into a darker, slower, more atmospheric frame.
Across these twelve pieces, Fiedler works with murky electronics, distorted melody, narcotic loops and submerged rhythm rather than obvious hooks. "Low Times" opens with real pressure, while tracks such as "Soft Collapse" and "Blackout Dust" drift through noir ambience, buried pulse and a dreamlike sense of tension. The references in the source material to Andy Stott, Basic Channel and Augustus Pablo feel useful here, because Oblique seems less interested in revival than in pulling dub into a more clouded, hypnotic space.
What stands out most is how expansive the album sounds without losing weight. Source notes describe it as moodier and more immersive than its predecessor, and that comes through in the way blurred melodies, slowed-down grooves and pure atmosphere are balanced across the set. For anyone drawn to heavy low-end music with patience, depth and a strong sense of sonic architecture, this is a compelling next step in Fiedler's catalogue.
