Wonderwall Music is an adventurous first solo statement from George Harrison, and one of the earliest soundtrack albums by a Beatle. Written for the 1968 film Wonderwall, it moves far beyond conventional rock, mixing Indian classical instrumentation, psychedelic fragments and studio experiments into a collage of short themes and mood pieces. Harrison recorded the music in London and Mumbai, drawing on contributors from both Western pop and Indian classical traditions. Its blend of sitar, tabla, brass and tape effects made it a strikingly unconventional release for its time, and an important early example of Harrison’s long fascination with cross-cultural musical forms.
