    About this album

George Benson’s The Other Side Of Abbey Road is a sharp, stylish reworking of Beatles material that helped define his early crossover appeal. Released in 1970, the album finds Benson and his band reframing Abbey Road favourites such as “Golden Slumbers”, “Because”, “Come Together”, “Something” and “The End” through a cool, groove-led soul-jazz and jazz-funk lens. Rather than treating the songs as covers, Benson uses them as vehicles for improvisation, melodic control and elastic rhythm, making the record both accessible and musically sophisticated. It remains one of the clearest statements of his pre-superstar period and a notable example of jazz artists engaging with contemporary rock repertory.
